‘Empty Me Now’

I wrote this song a couple of weeks ago in response to a blog message I received from friend of mine, Heather Nielsen. Heather is a nurse who left her job as a critical care nurse at Mayo Clinic to serve in Guatemala for the last 2 1/2 years. She continues to serve as a personal mentor and an example of someone who’s clearly following God’s call. Please read her blog as it eloquently states both some of the costs of and the rewards of serving God with your entire being. Within a couple hours of having read this entry in Heather’s blog, I had written the song below. I’d like to dedicate it to Heather, to the work that she’s done, and the lives that she’s changed. There have been many, including mine.

May you feel and recognize God’s hand moving in your life today and always!

John

‘Empty Me Now’
Lord, empty me now, of busyness that life brings
Help me concentrate, on the song my soul sings
The song you fill me up with, when I live life in You
The song that turns a normal day, into time spent with You

Lord, empty me now, of worldly wants and desires
Help me build the flames, of my soul’s burning fire
The fire you fill me up with, when I live life in You
The fire that turns my humanness, into a part of You

Lord, empty me now, of envy and jealousy
Help me to let go, of the chains that bind me
The chains I can’t hold onto, when I live life in You
The chains that stop my soul from, drawing close to You

Lord, empty me now, of my pride and vanity
Help me see in the mirror, a reflection of Thee
A being filled with love now, that I live life in You
A child of God committed, to living as You’d ask me to

Lord, empty me now, of my worries, doubts, and fears
Help me to have faith, that it’s Your words I hear
The Words you fill me up with, when I live life in You
The Words I hear deep in my heart, when I listen for You
